The Terminal Retreat: New Reserved Lounge at BIAL

The concept ‘tranquil oasis’ for this lounge originated from the design of the Reserved Lounge in Terminal 2. Drawing inspiration from Terminal 2, a similar aesthetic flows into the Reserved Lounges in Terminal 1, refined for an elevated ambiance.
As these lounges are situated within the terminal, natural light is absent. The aim is to simulate an outdoor environment and provide a peaceful retreat for travellers.

To achieve this, a colour scheme featuring greens, browns, and mustard yellows is employed, creating a lush atmosphere complemented by calming tawny and off-white tones and a faux window is added behind the lounge seating with a view of the forest.
The furniture boasts a sleek, modern design, while soft, gentle lighting enhances the relaxation experience. Additionally, touches of wood finishes contribute to a sense of warmth within the space.
The artwork in the lounge is specially curated from various galleries and Bangalore based artists.

Location: BIAL T1, Bangalore, India

Completed: April 2025

Total Area: 3800 sq. ft.

Design Team: Ashok Solanki, Milind Panchal

ENTRANCE RECEPTION
A backdrop of fins supports a green wall behind the reception area, enhanced by a metal sculptural table, crafting an engaging entrance atmosphere.
Near the entrance, a tree shaped jali feature wall acts as a partition, offering privacy while maintaining visibility into the lounge.

MAIN LOUNGE
The curved sofa seats, along with armchairs, provide a comfortable seating arrangement. Windows with a faux greenery positioned behind the sofas break up what would otherwise be a solid wall.
Utilizing various seating arrangements along with the curved sofas ensures both variety and optimal use of space for maximum efficiency. The upholstery colours and patterns are bold, warm and vibrant.

PRIVATE LOUNGE
Considering this part of the lounge as a distinct environment, we designed a neutral backdrop, a bamboo floor, and off-white textured, patterned upholstery, accompanied by a single red sofa and cushions in mixed warm colours.

The VIP Lounge features linear chamfered edge panelling. A brey upholstery base, paired with solid cushions, provides the space with a subtle yet effective contrast. The television is incorporated into a leatherite wall panel.

WASHROOMS
The washrooms maintain consistency with the overall design of the lounge. We incorporated a marble floor and wall, with one wall featuring a fluted metal inlay pattern to serve as a focal point.
