The Travel Experience Store

Client's brief: To design an exclusive, 'one stop shop' luggage showroom, which along with providing a wide variety of options, also takes you through the various experiences of traveling, and showcases live packing tips and hacks.

The challenge was to design a unique store, where one can experience luggage in multiple dimensions of travel. The client and our team at ABM Architects wanted to cater to the distinguished needs of each buyer, with clientele being people of all ages, and all professions.

The stark, dramatic entrance lets you enter the world of travel and luggage, as you walk through a trolley bag.

Project Team: SP Makharia, Shruja Pathak and Ashok Solanki

Location: Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India

Area: 1360 sq. ft.

Completed: March 2019

A brief history of luggage is featured on one wall, taking one through the evolution of luggage, based size, type and materials. As you move in, the spaces are categorised to suit various travel experiences, ranging from business travel to leisure travel, adventure travel, and even the mode of travel.

A detailed experience zone replicates the Airways, Railways, and roadways, with classic elements recreating the ambience of each individually, along with a live display of effectively packing every type of luggage and accessories. Elements such as the aircraft wheels and seats, conveyer belt, cabin storage modules, train berths, a car - all add to the comprehensive experience.

The blown up life size metal suitcases and keyboard keys, effectively modified to display business travel bags and accessories, highlight the business zone, while beautifully sculpted pop hands and arms highlight the women's section.

A blown up carcasses of a backpack and trolley are additional features, all modified to display specific types of luggage. Altogether, the store successfully provides a one stop shop experience for one and all.
